Oyster Shell Bagging, Wilmington, DE

Join the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary in an afternoon of volunteering!

Did you know that PDE recycles oyster shells? Yep. PDE has agreements with Wilmington, Delaware area restaurants to save the shells from oysters they serve to customers. They pick them up and store them at a recycling lot for later use in living shoreline and other environmental projects.

At the lot, those shells go into a BIG pile where they cure. Later, PDE bags them before they’re transported for use. That’s where YOU enter the picture! PDE needs volunteers to help us put shells in to net bags. Individuals and groups are welcome to come and help. It’s also a great way to celebrate National Estuaries Week (Sept. 14-21) with PDE!
