Soil Performance in Green Stormwater Infrastructure Systems Symposium

  • Penn State at the Navy Yard 4960 South 12th Street, Building 661 Philadelphia, PA 19112 United States (map)

Join DVGBC and the Sustainable Business Network of Philadelphia's GSI Partners on Wednesday, May 25th for a half-day symposium that will explore the technical aspects of soil performance as it relates to stormwater management. The first panelist, Barrett Kays, Ph.D., will present findings from his research on sand-based structural soils and on enhanced infiltration through amending site soils. Tim Craul (Craul Land Scientists) will then present a case study of Central Green, touching on site specific challenges and comparing and contrasting the soils approach with other sites he has worked on in the Philadelphia region.

Following both presentations, Mark Highland (President, The Organic Mechanic Soil Company) will lead a moderated Q&A discussion to dig deeper into the issues of in situ vs. amended soils, infiltration, soil storage, performance metrics, cost, maintenance and other topics pertinent to the regulatory approval of similar projects. The event will conclude with a guided tour of Central Green by Kate Childers of Pennoni and Sarah Weidner Astheimer of James Corner Field Operations to contextualize Tim Craul's case study.
