In November, PennFuture, CDRW and the Choose Clean Water coalition, who works primarily in the Chesapeake, collaborated to draft and submit a joint coalition sign on letter commenting on updates to the Department of Environmental Protection's (DEP) interim final Environmental Justice Policy The formal public comment period closed on November 30, 2023, and now DEP is working on a comment-response document for comments received during this period.

How does drinking water end up at your tap? How do you know if it’s safe to drink? Water from sources like rivers, reservoirs, or aquifers moves through water treatment plants that clean water and monitor it for any harmful chemicals, bacteria, or viruses. This process is critical to the Delaware River Watershed because the Delaware River serves as a drinking water source for more than 13 million people. Using a process of chemicals and filtration, water treatment plants can ensure clean and safe drinking water.
Coalition Statement on Latex Chemical Spill into the Delaware River Watershed
The Coalition is saddened to learn that about 8,100 gallons of harmful latex chemicals ― like butyl acrylate and methyl methacrylate ― entered Otter Creek, a tributary for the Delaware River Watershed on the evening of Friday, March 24th. This spill, caused by the Trinseo plant, has threatened the drinking water for over 975,000 people, including the watershed communities of Bristol, Philadelphia, Camden, and more.
